About the Role
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Education Director advances Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation’s (VGFN) jurisdiction over community education. This role manages and expands programs that support the academic and cultural growth of all people. The Director collaborates with the First Nations School Board (FNSB) and community committees to implement Section 17 agreements, aligning the education system with VGFN’s mission, values and goals.

What You Will Do:
Leadership and Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of educational programs and staff, ensuring the alignment of activities with community goals.
- Lead the hiring process, budget planning, and scheduling for education-related roles within the VGFN.
- Collaborate with the FNSB and community committee to enhance the educational system under Section 17 agreements.
Curriculum Development and Cultural Integration:
- Drive the development and implementation of culturally relevant curriculum that incorporates Vuntut Gwitchin knowledge, language, and traditions.
- Plan and oversee the execution of cultural camps and on-the-land programs in partnership with the school.
Strategic Development and Jurisdictional Expansion:
- Expand VGFN’s jurisdictional influence over education by working with the FNSB, Yukon legislation, and Section 17 agreements.
- Advocate for and secure post-secondary funding and educational resources to support students' academic journeys.
- Develop and implement community-based training programs to build local capacity and empower residents.
Community Engagement and Committee Involvement:
- Participate actively in the FNSB community committee, contributing to the establishment and recruitment processes.
- Foster strong relationships with parents, Elders, and other community members to ensure the educational programs reflect community needs and values.
- All other duties as assigned.
What You Bring:
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, Indigenous Studies, or a related field is required.
- A master’s degree in education, Educational Leadership, or a similar discipline is preferred.
- Coursework or certification in Indigenous Education, Curriculum Development, or Educational Administration is an asset.
- At least 5-7 years of experience in educational leadership, including program management and staff supervision, preferably within an Indigenous community or similar context.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, particularly in integrating Indigenous knowledge and cultural practices.
- An in-depth understanding and deep appreciation for Indigenous People and their history, culture, traditions, and languages.
- A strong desire to uplift and support our community.
- Providing advice and recommendations to senior decision-makers.
- Experience working in an Indigenous northern community is an asset.

About the Role
Reporting to the Fish and Wildlife Manager in the Natural Resources and Heritage Department, the Teechik Land Guardian Coordinator plays a vital role in preserving our natural heritage. This dynamic position involves planning and executing exciting Land Guardian activities, recruiting and mentoring a group of casual Guardians, and ensuring the program has the necessary equipment and supplies.
You will implement impactful programming in the field and the community, communicate our inspiring results, and develop compelling proposals and reports for funding and collaborations. Join us in making a real difference as you manage the administration that keeps the Teechik Land Guardians thriving as a crucial on-the-land component of VGFN.
What We Offer
- $54.85 - $67.04 per hour/per annum Band 2 (Based on education & experience)

What You Will Do:
- Annual Work Plans: Develop work plans aligned with VGFN’s seasonal harvest calendar.
- Recruitment: Recruit and engage Old Crow community members and VGFN citizens as casual Land Guardians.
- Procurement: Research and procure equipment, materials, supplies, and technology for effective and safe operation.
- Supervision: Coordinate and supervise a team of casual Land Guardians for on-the-land programming, including wildlife and environmental monitoring, harvest support, and education in traditional and scientific skills.
- Data Management: Collect, manage, and analyze environmental monitoring data with Land Guardians, colleagues, and partners.
- Reporting: Report regularly to the supervisor on daily operations and results, to the community on annual work plans and outcomes, and to external partners as needed.
- Funding: Prepare applications for and reports to funding agencies to support Land Guardian programming.
- Knowledge Sharing: Prepare scientific and traditional knowledge reports for the community, external partners, and peer-reviewed journals.
- Field Operations: Conduct and lead safe and responsible field operations in accordance with VGFN’s Health and Safety policies.
- Knowledge Transfer: Support the intergenerational transfer of traditional harvesting and ecological knowledge between VGFN citizens and others.
- Compliance: Ensure decisions and approaches adhere to legislation, policy, and guidelines.
- Leadership: Model and promote VGG Standards of Conduct and professional behaviour for Land Guardians and community members.
- Communication: Accurately and timely communicate Land Guardian-related information to citizens, VGFN, and partners.
- External Funding: Obtain external funding to support Land Guardian programming.
- Community Engagement: Coordinate on-the-land activities that engage VGFN citizens, support traditional harvesting activities, and collect valuable environmental information.
- Positive Interactions: Foster positive and engaging interactions with colleagues, citizens, and the public.
What You Bring:
- A diploma in natural or renewable resource management, fisheries management or science, wildlife management or science, land management, environmental studies or science, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Ability to manage projects, budgets, funding applications, reporting, research, and Land Guardian programming in remote environments.
- Experience conducting field operations, preferably in the VGFN Traditional Territory.
- Ability to conduct fieldwork year-round in diverse seasonal conditions, handling extreme temperatures, precipitation, and winds in all seasons.
- Ability to travel for training, attend meetings, and access remote areas of the Traditional Territory.
- Knowledge of and experience safely operating boats, snowmobiles, and ATVs.
- Proficiency in leading fish, wildlife, and habitat monitoring and research projects in the Arctic or subarctic boreal forest.
- Experience living in and supporting the operations of remote field camps.
- A history of working with and engaging Indigenous communities and citizens.
- Knowledge of fish and wildlife management and environmental monitoring techniques.
- Awareness of Vuntut Gwitchin history, culture, traditions, and languages, including the Final Agreement.
- A strong desire to uplift and support our community.
- Experience working in an Indigenous northern community is an asset.
- First Aid Certification.

What You Bring:

- Considerable experience managing conservation or natural resource programs, including strategic planning and evaluation; in an indigenous community is an asset.
- Experience leading and managing teams.

- Knowledge of resource management, and ecological sustainability principles and practices to lead inspections, surveys, and projects.

About the Role
VGFN is hiring 1 to 2 School Cooks, to work either part-time or full-time, as part of the school’s food services team. Reporting to the Executive Director and/or School Principal, you will be responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving food for our school breakfast and lunch programs, and at times for special events. This role requires adherence to health, safety, and hygiene regulations while providing well-balanced, nutritious meals that cater to dietary and allergy needs, as well as specific requests.

What You Will Do:
Planning and Preparation:
- Collaborate with other school cooks to plan and prepare daily hot breakfasts and lunches for students and their families.
- Order food supplies and equipment.
- Prepare and update monthly food menus.
- Ensure the timely preparation of food in sufficient quantities, considering dietary needs and specific requests.
Administration:
- Maintain daily records of meals served and take inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Communicate the daily menu, including any allergenic ingredients, to all school staff.
- Ensure compliance with Food Safety and Health & Safety Regulations.
- Properly rotate stock to prevent food from becoming out of date and check expiration dates regularly.
- Verify deliveries for accuracy and quality, reporting any errors promptly.
- Complete food temperature charts daily (delivery, fridge & freezer, core cooking, hot holding, cooling, etc.).
- Minimize food wastage and maintain records of all food wastage.
- Participate in meetings with the Principal/Staff to discuss daily requirements.
Other:
- Assist in other food preparations as needed.
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness within the kitchen and dining areas, ensuring regular disinfection.
- Use a high level of hygiene and ensure proper use of protective clothing.
- Respect and adhere to all School and Band policies and procedures.
- Conduct oneself in a manner that upholds the reputation of the Employer and the Gitsegukla Community.
- Fulfill other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or Executive Director.

- Proficiency in the preparation of large quantities of food.
- Familiarity with foodservice management principles, planning, and purchasing supplies.
- Understanding of menu planning, recipe modification, and appropriate food cooking temperatures.
- Knowledge of inventory control procedures, food procurement, and storage.
- Proficiency in volume food preparations, food values, characteristics, and nutrition.
- Ability to lift/unload food and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Pre-employment verification including Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.

- Full time or part time, temporary based on the school year

What You Will Do:
- Assist students in setting goals and creating educational and recreational plans, encouraging their progress and participation.
- Identify emotional, social, recreational, cultural, and spiritual needs of students and make recommendations to the Education team.
- Lead and mentor students in integrating cultural knowledge and skills into their learning (e.g., land activities, mechanical skills, traditional beading, sewing, cooking, etc.)

- Collaborate with school staff to organize special events both at the school and on the land.

- Track student progress and provide regular updates to the Education team to ensure that each student's needs are met effectively.
What You Bring:
- Certification or a combination of relevant training and experience in education support/services.
- Experience in supporting students in an educational and mentoring capacity.
- Proven ability to integrate traditional and cultural beliefs into student learning and experiences.
- Skilled in operating on-the-land equipment, such as snowmobiles and ATVs, with knowledge of camp setup and camp procedures and protocols.
- Knowledge of Yukon First Nation education regulations, priorities, and services.
- Proficiency in computer programs, including Microsoft Office.
- Experience working in a remote, indigenous community is an asset.
