About the Role
The Family Support Worker provides front line social services support to Vuntut Gwitchin Citizens and families living in Old Crow. The position will be primarily based on the Old Crow. Reporting to the Health Programs Manager, the Family Support Worker’s responsibilities include but are not limited to;
- Providing direct and personal family support and prevention services to Citizens.
- Building relationships with families and youth with a nonjudgemental and trauma informed approach.
- Working with colleagues to develop and review individual case plans for clients. Contributing and exchanging information to ensure a coordinated approach with VGG and external specialists.
- Responding to client inquiries and public concerns. Sharing information to inform citizens and explaining policies, services and options in a manner that is understandable and directly applicable to individual circumstances.
- Connecting families with CYFN, YFNED, CYAO, and YG resources when required.
- Participating in the development of policies and procedures pertaining to family support. Advocating and making recommendations for service delivery that is in the best interest of Citizens.
- Coordinating drug and alcohol referrals and workshops such as Anger Management, Stress Management, etc. to encourage and promote healthy functioning of children and families.
- Organizing and hosting events that encourage family engagement and promoting healthy family dynamics.
- Providing Jordan’s Principle support letters and participating in family events when necessary.
- Connecting clients with counselling support for domestic violence.
- Ensuring clients are referred to the Mental Wellness and Addictions Programs Manager and staff for those in need of mental health and addictions support.
What We Offer
- $56.00 - $68.45 per hour/per annum (Based on education and experience)
- Flexible Work Hours: Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation offers flexible working hours. Employees may choose to work 65, 70, 75, or 80 hours biweekly (some guidelines will apply).
- 4% Northern Community Remoteness Allowance for employees residing in Old Crow full-time.
- 4% Northern Travel Allowance for employees residing in Old Crow full-time.
- 4 weeks’ vacation to start plus two weeks paid time off over the Christmas season.
- A very healthy extended benefits package.
- 10 days sick pay per year.
- 10 days paid special/personal leave per year.
- A matched pension plan.
- Subsidized Housing may be available.
- Relocation Allowance.
What You Bring:
- Post-secondary education in a Social Work or Human Services related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Experience accessing and navigating community social institutions and systems.
- Familiar with the Yukon Child and Family Services Act.
- Familiar with Signs of Safety and Structured Decision-Making tools.
- Familiar with Bill C-92: An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis children, youth and families.
- Experience working with children and families; in an Indigenous northern community is an asset.
- Support, mentorship and training will be provided to strengthen technical skills and knowledge related to family support, and to support the successful candidate to gain experience in the Key Performance Areas.
