Resolution No. 2008-09 - Passed by Consensus

Re-energizing the Gwitchin Communities

Whereas; It's been 20 years since the 1988 mandate to protect the porcupine caribou herd
                calving grounds within the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge on the costal
                plain in Alaska;

Whereas; The Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation has taken the lead over the last several years
                in achieving the 1988 mandate;

Whereas; The threats to the calving grounds in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge have
                increased and the pressure to develop the costal plains is immense;

Whereas; The Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation sees the need to re-energize, re-organize and
                re-strategize as a nation.

Therefore Be It Resolved;

The Vuntut Gwitchin Government caribou coordination branch seek financial assistance to
put together a Gwitchin community tour about the mandate and history of the 1988 gathering
in Arctic Village, Alaska beginning in early 2009.
