Resolution No. 2005-14 - Passed by Consensus

Calving Grounds of the Porcupine Caribou Herd on the Coastal Plain
Within the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

Whereas: The Gwich'in are once again facing a critical period
          in our battle to save the calving grounds of the
          Porcupine Caribou herd on the Alaska coastal plain in
          the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge;
Whereas: The Porcupine Caribou herd has sustained us for time
          immemorial in mind, body and spirit;
Whereas: In September 2005 a decision will be made in the United
          States political arena that may allow for access for big
          oil to enter the calving grounds of the Porcupine Caribou
          herd within Arctic National Wildlife Refuge;

Therefore be it resolved:

That the vgfn keep this issue as a top priority of our government;

That VGFN encourage YTG and any other governments to be as vocal as
we are especially in the weeks to come; especially YTG's Minister
of Environment, Energy Mines and Resources, and the Premier; also
the PM and Federal Ministers.
